Free Auto Parts from Abandoned Vehicles

Most abandoned vehicles have the most value right when they are dumped. By the time the city tows the car 4-6 months later, it's stripped and damaged. I don't think giving parts away from stolen cars is a good practice.

No. This will only increase the number of folks fixing cars on the street and dumping used car parts on street and car oil. Bad for stormwater drains.

Set up a place where people can work on their cars with oil collection and garbage service to dispose of used parts, tires. etc.

Do it in a timely manner. Don't let the vehicle sit for months.

One of the unintended consequences of this idea is that it actually might remove any guilt associated with dumping a vehicle, thus increasing the dumping problem in the first place.
