Great idea about engaging local celebrities. Arts could jazz up the contemplative pace of NVC :( …my perception, varied but not deep involvement with it….). NVC challenges the popular multi billion dollar in-fear-tainment addictions. Tangent / example how NVC cd attract xtra interest/ reality t v proposal?! Exception to inane and /or violent HBO series: “ Couples’ Therapy” .Real counselor, real clients, real squirm -in -yr -seat honesty , necessary awkward convo’s. Best wishe…

No one is born knowing complex language - it is taught. For us to grow together as a community, learning the words and methods of communication that will help us speak together with compassion and resolve our conflicts will help Oakland speak with one voice about the issues that matter most.

Getting a diverse group of people committed to taking action to improve life in Oakland is key to the city’s future.

Having conflict resolution and non-violent/compassionate communication as our shared language in Oakland would benefit absolutely everyone.

Critical to have shared approaches to communication. Otherwise we’ll continue to talk in circles and past one another.

This is the only way we can hope to move forward in Oakland...turn down the rhetoric, and focus on understanding and support of mutual goals.

Learning non-violent/compassionate communication skills have helped communities across the globe solve intractable problems so they can prosper and thrive.

learning non-violent/compassionate communication skills will help all the members of our community.

Oakland can do this !

Only when people come together, recognize each other as people of value and stop to take time to notice and value each other, operate with openness and honesty will violence be reduced. Learning non-violent/compassionate communication skills will help all the members of our community

Educate. Educate. Educate. Our culture has marginalized people to the point of economic desperation; not taking care of people. And it’s not just an Oakland problem. Maybe the Buy-In can be introduced to perpetrators of violent crime who are incarcerated, especially the recidivist. That would place focus where the problem is; at least I think that’s where it could start.

Just like it is wise to start with minimally invasive techniques when trying to heal a health problem so should we try to use conflict resolution to heal the problems of our community. Radical measures should be our last choice.
